(WPDE) — The Governor proclaimed May 9 as PGA HOPE Day in South Carolina.
HOPE stands for Helping Our Patriots Everywhere.
Dignitaries attended the celebration on Thursday which took place at the Marriott Myrtle Beach Resort & Spa at Grande Dunes as part of the PGA TOUR Myrtle Beach Classic.
In March, the House of Representatives of South Carolina passed a resolution led by Representative Heather Crawford that declared May 9 as PGA HOPE Day in recognition of the PGA HOPE program and its positive effect on improving the quality of life for veterans through golf.
This is bigger than we thought it would be,” said Gary Schaal, Project Golf/PGA HOPE Program. “Proclamation, that always sounds good, but the words that they used in the proclamation really hit home with us – how important veterans are to not only our country but our community.
